Notre Dame School is a Catholic institution managed by the Sisters of Notre Dame,
headquartered in Bangalore. All decisions made by the Governing Body are rooted
in Christian philosophy and theology.
The school traces its spiritual heritage to St. Julie Billiart of France, who founded the
Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1804. Her vision of
recognizing God’s goodness in everything was later carried forward by Sister Aloysia
Wolbring, who established the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame in
Coesfeld, Germany, in 1850.
Inspired by the charism of St. Julie and Sister Aloysia, Notre Dame has expanded its
mission worldwide. The institution actively serves communities through educational,
social, and medical initiatives in various countries, including Germany, Italy, Belgium,
England, Holland, the United States, South America, Indonesia, India, South Korea,
China, Papua New Guinea, Africa, and the Philippines.
The first Notre Dame School in India was established in Jamalpur, Bihar, in 1950.
Today, Notre Dame institutions are present across several states, including Bihar,
Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Assam, West Bengal, Delhi,
Tamil Nadu, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Maharashtra.
